Compound guide · Tesamorelin
Tesamorelin is a synthetic growth-hormone-releasing-hormone analogue and the only compound in Purity Collective’s catalog that is also a US-approved prescription drug. This guide collects the published research with its models stated, the chemical identity, what the evidence does not show, and Purity’s own lot reports for the 10mg, 20mg and pen listings.
For laboratory research only. Not for human or animal use. This guide gives no dosing, reconstitution, administration or therapeutic advice.
How to choose a tesamorelin listing
Purity Collective lists tesamorelin in three formats. The two vials are lyophilized powder at different quantities; the pen is a pre-filled cartridge that shares the 10mg vial’s lot and certificate. The 10mg and 20mg lots were tested by different laboratories with different methods, so the reports are not interchangeable.
| Listing | Format | Lot on report | Lab · method | Report scope |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tesamorelin 10mg | Lyophilized vial | PCCL-4867057-P | Horizon Analytical · UPLC/MS | Quantity, purity, MS identity; endotoxin on a separate certificate |
| Tesamorelin 20mg | Lyophilized vial | PCTSA-020 | ILS Laboratories · HPLC | Purity, net content, retention-time identity, fentanyl screen; no endotoxin line |
| Tesamorelin (Pen) | Pre-filled pen | PCCL-4867057-P | Shares the 10mg vial lot | Same two Horizon certificates |
Key facts. Tesamorelin is a synthetic 44-amino-acid analogue of human growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH 1-44) with a trans-3-hexenoyl group on the N-terminal tyrosine, which makes it resistant to the enzyme DPP-IV[17214611]. It is the one compound in Purity’s catalog that is also a US-approved prescription drug: the FDA approved it in 2010, under the brand Egrifta, for a specific indication in people with HIV[21115997]. The research material sold here is not that drug, carries no approval, and is supplied only for laboratory use.
Where does tesamorelin come from?
Tesamorelin began as TH9507 at Theratechnologies in Montreal. The design problem was that native GHRH is cleared within minutes by dipeptidyl peptidase-IV; adding a hexenoyl moiety to Tyr1 slowed degradation in rat, dog and human plasma and prolonged circulating levels in animals, while preserving the hormone’s action on growth hormone and IGF-1 release in pigs, rats and dogs[17214611]. An early dog study also tested whether a dry-powder pulmonary route could replace injection, and found that it could deliver the peptide, which tells you something about its stability as a molecule[15113616]. The clinical program that followed ran in people with HIV on antiretroviral therapy who had accumulated abdominal fat, culminating in two phase 3 trials and FDA approval[18057338][20554713][21115997].

What has been studied in the laboratory and the clinic?
Pharmacology and toxicology (rat, dog, pig)
The non-clinical package showed that TH9507 raised plasma growth hormone and IGF-1 after repeat administration across the doses tested in three species, and that subchronic toxicity studies in rats and dogs lasting up to four months were consistent with exaggerated pharmacology rather than new toxicities[17214611]. The population pharmacokinetic model built later from human data describes rapid absorption and a short half-life, consistent with a peptide that acts through a pulse of hormone release rather than sustained exposure[25358450].
Visceral fat in people with HIV (human, randomized)
The pivotal 26-week trial randomized 412 people with HIV and abdominal fat accumulation to tesamorelin or placebo; the primary endpoint was the percent change in visceral adipose tissue on CT, with lipids and IGF-1 as secondary measures[18057338]. A pooled analysis of two phase 3 studies (806 participants) added a 26-week extension in which participants were re-randomized to continue or stop, and examined what happened to the measured endpoints after discontinuation[20554713]. A 2026 systematic review and meta-analysis graded the evidence from these and later trials[42538058]. Efficacy figures are deliberately not reproduced here; they belong to the approved drug’s label, not to a research material.
Liver fat (human, randomized)
Two randomized, double-blind trials asked whether the effect on visceral fat extended to the liver: a 6-month single-center study of 50 participants in Boston[25038357] and a 12-month multicenter trial in people with HIV and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which measured hepatic fat fraction by MR spectroscopy and liver histology[31611038].
Cognition (human, randomized; one null)
A GHRH trial in older adults with and without mild cognitive impairment reported favorable cognitive measures in a 20-week study[22869065]. A 2025 phase 2 open-label trial in people with HIV, viral suppression and abdominal obesity did not find a benefit of tesamorelin over standard of care on its neurocognitive primary outcome[39813152].
Analytical chemistry
Because GHRH analogues are prohibited in sport, anti-doping laboratories have characterized their in-vitro metabolism and detection in urine; the 2021 study covered sermorelin, tesamorelin and both CJC-1295 forms and mapped their major metabolites[34665524]. That body of method work is what makes mass-spectrometric identity confirmation of a tesamorelin sample straightforward.

What the evidence does not show
- Every efficacy trial was run in one population: adults with HIV on antiretroviral therapy with abdominal fat accumulation. Nothing here shows what tesamorelin does in other people, and this page makes no claim about that.
- The approval is for one indication. The research-grade peptide sold on this site is not Egrifta, has not been evaluated by the FDA, and is not a substitute for a prescription product.
- The 2025 neurocognition trial was negative on its primary outcome[39813152]; the earlier GHRH cognition study used a different compound and population[22869065].
- Growth hormone and IGF-1 rise with tesamorelin in animals and people[17214611][25358450]; that is a mechanism, not a benefit, and it is also the reason the compound is on the prohibited list in sport[34665524].
- No published study has used a research-supplier vial of tesamorelin. Laboratory findings depend on the identity and quantity of the material, which is what the lot report is for.
Batch documentation
Two lots are documented in the COA library. The 10mg lot (PCCL-4867057-P) was analyzed by Horizon Analytical by UPLC/MS on 4 May 2026: specification 10mg, result 10.13mg, purity 99.23%, identity by mass spectrometry; its endotoxin certificate (lot -E) reads <0.05 EU/mL. The 20mg lot (PCTSA-020) was analyzed by ILS Laboratories by HPLC on 17 August 2026: purity 99.91% by area at 214 nm, net peptide content 20.71mg, identity confirmed by retention-time match, fentanyl screen not detected; the ILS certificate carries a verification code and no endotoxin line. The pen shares the 10mg lot.

Reading them together: both lots exceed their purity specification and both quantity results are close to label (the 20mg lot slightly over, as a net-content figure). The difference that matters to a buyer is scope: endotoxin is documented for the 10mg lot and the pen, and not for the 20mg lot.
Handling and storage in the laboratory
Tesamorelin vials are lyophilized and should be kept cold, dry and dark until use; a 44-residue peptide in solution is best refrigerated and used within the window your protocol sets. The pen is a liquid cartridge and should be refrigerated per the product page. Record the lot number against your experiments. For background on the records themselves, see how to read a peptide COA and the tesamorelin record in the research library.
Frequently asked questions
